About Oxford Wagyu

Oxford Wagyu is a Wyoming cattle operation with a different vision for Wagyu: build the cow for the country she is expected to work in.

At high elevation in the Rocky Mountain West, cattle face long winters, relentless wind, rough country and a short growing season. Rather than managing around those challenges, we use them to help shape our breeding program.

Our goal is to develop what we call Rocky Mountain Wagyu —moderate, functional and highly maternal Wagyu cattle that can thrive on forage, raise vigorous calves on pasture and maintain themselves under demanding Western conditions.

We believe the cow comes first. Fertility, mothering ability, sound structure, natural fleshing, moderate size, efficient growth and longevity matter just as much as the exceptional carcass quality for which Wagyu is known.

Our cattle are expected to work for a living. Summers are spent grazing Wyoming range, winters are built around grass hay, and our cows are expected to calve and raise their calves with minimal intervention.

We are not trying to produce the biggest Wagyu, chase a single number or maximize one trait at the expense of the animal as a whole. We are building balanced cattle and maternal families that can perform generation after generation.

Our breeding philosophy is simple:

Select cattle that fit the environment rather than continually changing the environment to fit the cattle.

The result we are working toward is a distinctly Western kind of Wagyu—hardy, efficient, maternal and functional, while retaining the extraordinary beef quality that makes Wagyu unique.
